“Edible foodlike substances” – Don’t Eat ’em

Michael Pollan in “Food Rules” writes his:

  • Rule 1:  Eat Food.  He says that 17,000 new substances show up in the market every year.  He doesn’t consider them food and calls them “edible foodlike substances” .  Because these are generally highly processed, he considers the better choices to be whole foods your great-grandmother would have considered food.  Hence:
  • Rule 2:  Don’t eat anything your great-grandmother would not have recognized as food!  Great advice for eliminating bloat and feeling better!  (the food processing industry is going to hate this.)
